"A flashaholics worst nightmare."

The future of Swagged Out Stock [UPDATED – 8.23]

Hello Swag Nation,

It’s swagstr reporting back in the United States. My internship in Japan is over and I wanted to address somethings before we get developing.

First of all, I want to introduce everyone to DJarkIV, he is the newest member of Team Swag. If you use SOS M for the HTC EVO 3D, you can actually personally thank him for the last two releases of SOS M (2.4.5 and the forthcoming 2.6). 99.9% of those updates were his work and they were truly BAD ASS! I look forward to working with him and I hope you all welcome him with warm arms.

Another big announcement, mickeyXDA, creator of MeanROM ICS the base of SOS M for the HTC EVO 3D, has given me the green light to create a Sense-less ROM for the HTC EVO 4G LTE based on his ROM for the aforementioned smartphone. Unfortunately because no one at Team Swag owns this phone, Swag Nation will have to be patient as this ROM develops slowly.

Moving back to the HTC EVO 4G (I haven’t forgotten). There will be some minor and major changes with the next release First is that the package ROM will be renamed from SOS X/S/N (ugly name!) to SOS+. Next, for the sake of keeping things nice and tidy across devices, SOS N has been renamed to SOS M and the default launcher is now Holo Launcher (which is based off of the ICS Launcher). This makes the newly-named SOS M for the HTC EVO 4G look more like its big brother(s?). The rest of the updates are fairly minor for this release and I hope it prepares us for the upcoming final release of SOS+, this will most likely be in three updates.

Finally, SOS V’s development is – yep, you guessed it – dead. It was a small project that I did for fun but other people do a better job of maintaining stock ROMs than me. Oh well, the ROM is still available for anyone that wants it.

For a reminder of the differences in the different versions of SOS for the EVO 4G and the original post from way back when… keep reading!

SOS X (formerly Swag = ON) will keep a mostly stock appearance while trying to improve usability. At the same time, we will be porting over all of the themes (SBS, FLU, ICS) from previous SOS releases. These themes will be provided for SOS X. SOS X requires a lot of mods and is recommended for the advanced user.

SOS S (formerly Swag = OFF) features a few more mods that the classic Swag = OFF did by default. Team Swag has attempted to provide AROMA options to revert features that users do not want or need. This ROM is for basic users or for the advanced user looking to take control of what the ROM supplies.

SOS M  (formerly SOS N for the HTC EVO 4G) is slowly becoming a family of ROMs presented by Team Swag. The goal of these ROMs is to provide a Non-Sense experience that is NOT Nonsense. This means that everything just works and the heavy Sense backbone is removed. The HTC EVO 4G version is based on Android 2.3.3 with Holo Launcher as the default (based off of Android 4.0.3). The HTC EVO 3D and the upcoming HTC EVO 4G LTE versions are based on Android 4.0.3 and use the Apex Launcher (soon to be based on 4.1.1) by default. This ROM is recommended for users that want to remove Sense, but do not want to lose stability. If you do like Sense and own an HTC EVO 3D or 4G LTE, be sure to check out mickeyXDAs MeanROM ICS – the base for SOS M.

Hello Swag Nation,

swagstr reporting here to let you all know what we have been doing lately. A lot of you have been seeing ROMs take off in 4.67 land and are probably thinking: Where the hell is Swagged Out Stock at?

Well, don’t worry, because we have been putting in hard work to give you the best 4.67 ROM possible. To be the best ROM, you have to start with an uncompromised and efficient base. All 4.67-based SOS ROMs will be based off of tommytomatoe’s optimized base (straight from the RUU) or straight from the RUU (thanks miseryinmotion). All modifications are being done by Team Swag, but credit will still be given for the finder of the mod or the person we read the code from.

The biggest news of this new wave of updates is that SOS is now branching in to four different ROMs and each will have a deodex and an odex version! The three versions are:

  • SOSX
  • SOSS
  • SOSV
  • SOSN

The following is a brief breakdown of the benefits of each version of Swagged Out Stock.

SOSV is the base. And it could/should be your base. The ROM is highly optimized thanks to tommytomatoe, Team Swag member torzak has re-optimized all of the .pngs, and all modifications have been removed. This is the perfect ROM for the person afraid of root that wants a safe, stock environment. However, this is also the perfect ROM for a young developer to start with. They will have to learn how to add mods one-by-one and will get to learn what it takes to be one of the best. SOSV will be finished upon release. When the higher versions receive updates, SOSV will receive app updates and a build.prop adjustment only.

SOSS is the new “Swag = OFF.” With the possibility of there being three versions of “Swag,” I decided to keep it simple and just assign letters to each version of SOS. You may notice that these follow the standards of the new HTC One series (V is the base model, S is the step up, and X is the top-of-the-line). SOSS will feature a few more mods that Swag = OFF did, Team Swag will strive to provide flashable .zips to help people revert features that they do not need. This ROM is for basic users or for the advanced user looking to take control of what the ROM supplies.

SOSX will be the new “Swag = ON.” SOSX will keep a mostly stock appeal while trying to improve usability. At the same time, we will be porting over all of the themes (SBS, FLU, ICS) from previous SOS releases. These themes will be provided for SOSX, but will also most likely be compatible with SOSS (but not SOSV). SOSX requires a lot of mods and a lot of work to get all of the themes ported. Expect a delay in the release of SOSX to get everything just right.

SOSN is a combination of all three SOS ROMs that has been packaged up into one Sense-less base. This Nonsense ROM contains minimal amounts of Sense and has had GO Launcher EX installed. Feel free to replace the GO components with your favorite launcher!

Odex or Deodex? This will be the new dilemma for SOS users. Always remember, odex is faster and deodex is easier to theme (historically). Team Swag will strive to release everything in odex and deodex version. But it should be noted that new modifications will occur to deodex versions first.

That is all! As always, Team Swag loves to hear your input and is fully open to criticism. Feel free to drop your inputs in the comments below.

And of course…

Keep Swaggin’,

swagstr (on behalf of Team Swag)

Just came across SOS the other day in my search to find something more stable than CM but not be running the full HTC bloatware experience. You have answered my prayers and provided just what I’ve been looking for. Great work, keep it coming!!!
